Candlemas at Christ Church

Early in the new year we celebrate Candlemas, when forty days after his birth, Mary and Joseph presented Jesus at the temple. At Christ Church each year we have a special service where families can renew their baptismal promises. It is a service for all with the opportunity to especially invite families, godparents and friends of children recently baptised. The  children relight the baptismal candle given to them on their christening day to remind them that God has promised to be with them and to care for them always. We sing favourite hymns and take time in the service to decorate …

Christingle at Christ Church

Christingle at Christ Church is a regular with many families in the area. A time to get together to remember the extraordinary story of the birth of Jesus before they head into the fun of Christmas Day. The church looked amazing.  We read the Christmas story, lit our Christingle candles and sung carols by candlelight. With the magic of candlelight we were able to experience the wonder of that first Christmas, when God came to earth as a tiny baby. We had two services and over 500 people  came to enjoy this special time.

All Age Nativity

Our all age Nativity was a fun time. With little or no rehearsal our cast came together to tell the story of that first Christmas. The narrators did a great job of keeping everyone nearly on track! Children and adults transformed into Mary, Joseph, shepherds, angels, kings and inn keepers. In a slightly haphazard way they all actually arrived at Bethlehem. The singing was beautiful. The musicians did a great job.

O, Denneboom

O,Denneboom, O,Denneboom It was a cold and blustery morning, luckily without the forecasted rain, when we gathered in Trawden to choose and cut our “Lights of Love” Christmas tree generously donated, for the second year running, by Bernard Ross. It was interesting and fun talking with Bernard about how the trees he planted as saplings have grown over the years and such a joy making the acquaintance of his beautiful collie called Fly. Soleful eyes with a gentle character stared back at me when we were introduced before she realised that I was a friend and her tail began wagging …

Christmas Table Decoration

Christ Church have been very fortunate to have enjoyed the magnificent flower arrangements created by Pat Ormerod throughout the beautiful seasons in each year ever since Joyce Whitehouse retired over fourteen years ago. Everyone will agree that the church was a delight to behold during Harvest Festival this year. We are so lucky that Pat has agreed to demonstrate her skills and help those wishing to create their own Table decoration this Christmas, either for their own use and as a gift to a loved one. You are invited to join us in the Narthex on Friday the …

Youth comes to the rescue

Christ Church has a most beautiful organ which, until earlier this year, was played faithfully by Jack Leeming for many, many years. Recruiting a replacement for any retiring organist is proving a difficulty for many churches, however from our younger congregration a young man Called Ethan Little has stepped forward to offer his talents. Ethan was eleven years old in February 2017 when he first sat and had an attempt at mastering this difficult instrument. He has been given a few pointers from a local organist Matthew Leedham and had a lesson from Mr Pickles. Ethan is working towards …
