Seventeen members of the Benefice descended on Parcevall Hall last Thursday for 48 hours of rest, recuperation, spiritual enrichment and fun! The Hall is situated in the most beautiful grounds in the upper reaches of Wharfedale, not far from Burnsall. Whilst it’s only about 45 minutes’ drive away from Foulridge, it felt more like being in a completely different world, so relaxing is the atmosphere there.
During our stay we participated in a full range of worship, from Morning and Evening Prayer to Compline, which is celebrated just before going to bed. We also took part in two Eucharistic services, a more traditional one conducted by Rev Andy and one based upon Celtic tradition led by the Hall’s very own Chaplain. In addition, Andy and David led a service of talks and meditations, concentrating on mountains in the Bible.
By way of light relief, there was a fascinating guided tour of the gardens, a games night, a jigsaw puzzle to complete and a stimulating quiz night, the last put together by David.
This might sound a bit “full on”, but actually none of these activities was compulsory and there was plenty of time between them to relax in the convivial lounge. Many also made good use of the well-stocked bar.
Did we mention the food? Scrummy and wholesome, not much went back into the kitchen after.
