Messy Church began in 2004 at a church in Portsmouth, now there are thousands of Messy Churches worldwide. Each church will be different but the vision is the same, to reach out to families and provide them with the opportunity to learn about what the church believes in and be part of the church fellowship.
Messy Church takes place on the second Friday of every month and is totally different from other forms of worship in church. It is for all ages and always involves a variety of different and contrasting activities. It’s all ages worship so everyone from babes in arms to our most senior members is welcomed. Usually there’s a welcome and explanation followed by time to explore a biblical theme through messy activities, a short celebration time involving a story, song and prayers finishing with a light meal together.
The main message is that Messy Church is not just a “craft club” for children but a different way of exploring Christianity for all ages.
